Emergency Dental Service

There are several different reasons why you may need an emergency dental service. These are usually classified into two categories. The first is visible damage to the tooth while the second is discomfort that suggests a deeper condition, such as an abscess or tooth decay. Because the tooth’s nerves are located deep inside the root, most dental conditions do not become painful until they are advanced, so any time pain is present, it’s best to have it checked by your dentist.

It is advisable to get emergency dental care for any of the following:

  • An accident that hurt your tooth or your mouth
  • Loss of the tooth (known as an avulsed tooth)
  • A crack or fracturing of a tooth
  • A tooth that is loose or kicked out of balance (known as an extruded tooth)
  • Wounds in the tissues of the mouth, tongue, or even though the tooth is not damaged.
  • Severe or abscess infection
  • Extreme pain, swelling or bleeding that occurs immediately after such dental procedures such as tooth extraction, root canal, filling or dental implants.
  • Loss of a filling or crown

Depending on how bad the condition is and if it causes you any discomfort, you’ll either need to:

  • Visit a dentist right away (possibly a hospital)
  • Schedule an immediate appointment to see a dentist on the same day or the following day
  • Book a regular appointment to deal with the issue

If you have a chipped tooth or have a slight toothache, you will not be considered an emergency patient. Toothache is a symptom of an oral cavity, but you can always schedule an appointment to visit your dentist. Although a lost filling does not cause much damage, it is vital to be handled immediately or other sections of the tooth may break down.

Children’s emergency dental service appointments

As children grow and explore the world around them, emergency dental situations may arise. Your child will need to see a dentist immediately to cope with a cracked or broken tooth. Children will not discuss toothache to you until such time that it becomes intolerable and they need emergency treatment.

Ways to prevent dental emergencies

There are a few simple steps you should do to minimize the risk that you or your child will need to see the dentist in an emergency

  • Using a mouthguard can help avoid dental injuries. Use a mouthguard to protect the tooth while playing sports, especially contact sports.
  • Stop chewing ice or other hard foods that can hurt the tooth or internal fillings

If you need an emergency dental service appointment for your child, then follow these steps,

  • Call First Choice dental on 02 4623 8109 or visit https://firstchoicedental.com.au/book-appointment/
  • Hold some missing or dislodged tooth in milk before you visit the dentist as soon as possible
  • You should also give your child a dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen that is sufficient for their age to cope with the discomfort before they go to the dentist. Reassure them that the dentist will make them feel better quickly
