What is Restoration?
Restoration is a term used in dentistry to describe restoring the function of the tooth by replacing missing or damaged structure. Most people know these treatments as fillings, crowns and veneers. These are all different types of restorations, all of which we provide here at First Choice Dental.
Classification of Restorations
Restorations are classified as either Direct or Indirect.
Direct – the restoration is fabricated, or made inside the mouth. An example would be a composite filling, amalgam filling or stainless steel crown.
Indirect – the restoration is made outside of the mouth. An example would be a veneer, crown, bridge, implant, inlay or onlay. Common materials used for these restorations are porcelain, zirconia or gold.
